Who really owns your calendar?
Not all of your time is equally yours. See how much of your calendar is controlled by others, shared by choice or owned by you.
Many people believe they have a time management problem. Often, they have a calendar ownership problem. Before you can invest your time intentionally, you need to know who controls it now.
The three stages
Externally controlled
The world fills your calendar. You react to requests, interruptions, urgency and other people’s priorities. You stay busy, but the day does not feel like yours.
Intentionally shared
You consciously choose when, and with whom, to share your time: family, clients, colleagues, community. Shared time is not lost time when you choose it on purpose.
Intentionally owned
You design your calendar around what matters most. You protect priorities, create margin and make room for the life you want to build.
How to use it
- Look at your calendar for the next two weeks.
- Estimate the share of time that is externally controlled, intentionally shared and intentionally owned.
- Find one commitment you can remove, shorten, delegate or renegotiate.
- Protect one block of owned time for something that matters deeply to you.
Your challenge this week
Reclaim one hour of your calendar and protect it for what matters most.
